Stedman Reading Program with Calvary & New Hope Baptist

In the fall of 2018, Calvary and New Hope Baptist Church began a partnership in reading with 3rd grade students at Stedman Elementary which continues today. Volunteers from the churches are paired with students and read with them for 45 minutes each week, building relationships with students and serving as positive mentors. In this process of engaging with the community together, Calvary and New Hope members have built relationships with each other as well.

We are always seeking new volunteers from the two churches to be readers this year. No special skills are required! You will not be teaching literacy skills, but simply listening and helping a child as they read to you. You will need to complete a free DPS Online Volunteer Background Check; the link will be sent to you when you sign up.
